Troubleshooting / Tech Support

Zodi strives to deliver the best quality products but we do understand that a few less than perfect products will slip by, and we are here to make that right. We also know that our products are used in some pretty rough conditions so we are also here to help repair any Zodi product you may have.

Over 90% of our tech calls are resolved on this web page and do not require the product to be returned. Fewer than 5% of our calls to tech support require your product to be returned for repair. Most of our support calls are fixed by using fresh batteries, new propane, shielding the product from wind or performing an easy field repair to unclog your gas valve or un-stick your pump impellor.

Read this first.

Propane works best when warm and near sea level. As you gain altitude the performance of propane will drop. And as the temperature of the propane drops or the level of the propane in the tank drops so so does the performance. For best performance use full tanks of propane that are warm and not cold.

Windy weather is also a known issue that can decrease performance of your propane device. For best performance safely shield your heater from the wind.

Troubleshooting the Zodi 6 Volt Pump (D cell batteries):

The battery powered pump works best when rinsed or soaked in clean water after each use. If not rinsed thoroughly, when the dirty lake water inside your pumps dries out, the remaining dirt can dry like glue inside your pump and prevent the pump from spinning on the next use. The easy fix here is to rinse the pump after each trip or allow the pump to soak before next use. A stuck pump impellor is usually the cause of your pump or battery case feeling warm when you turn on the red button. The steps below will help you fix that issue right now. Other reasons for a pump not working are dead batteries or batteries not making good contact inside the battery case and that is covered below too.

Step 1 - Always use NEW alkaline D Cell batteries and confirm the batteries are positioned in the battery case correctly. See label inside case for proper battery position.

Step 2 - Open the battery case and on the inside of the battery case lid, bend the silver clips up (away from the lid). This will make the batteries make a good connection.

Step 3 - Remove the batteries and bend the silver clips located at the bottom inside of the battery case up. This will make the other two batteries fit tight.

Step 4 - Replace batteries making sure the batteries are positioned inside the battery case correctly as noted by label inside case then close and latch the battery case lid.

Step 5 - Hold the pump in your hand and push the red on/off button on the battery case, you should be able to feel the pump operating in your hand

Step 6 - If new batteries were installed, and bending the battery contacts (silver tabs) up did not solve your pump issue remove the round filter cap on the pump.

Step 7 - After the cap is removed look inside the pump and you should see a white plastic disc – This disc may be stuck from dried dirty water from a previous us. Position
a pin or paperclip into the hole and try to turn the white impellor disc. Once the disc rotates, try the red on/off button again.

Step 8 - If the motor is heard spinning but the white disc is not spinning, the impellor disc has slipped off the motor shaft. Push on the white disc with the blunt end of a ballpoint pen to make sure the impeller is secured onto the shaft of the motor. Clean the black foam filter in clean water, insert filter into pump cap then replace pump cap with filter back onto pump.

Step 9 - Place the pump in water source filter end down with hose and wire pointing UP, gently shake pump to release all air in hose and push the red on/off button on the pump battery case

Step 10 - With used batteries you may have to apply suction to other end of pump hose to initiate water flow, make sure heater is OFF before applying suction to hose.

The above procedure corrects virtually all pump issues. The pump is a limited life item and if it is still not working you can order a replacement pump at the following link: If the pump is new and not operating after the above steps please call Zodi support at 801-255-6418 ext 9. http://www.zodi.com/hot-showers/6-volt-pump

Troubleshooting the Zodi Gas Valve:

The gas valves we use on Zodi heaters are reliable but can become clogged from dust and dirt. Good news is you can clean your gas valves in the field with just a set of pliers and a paper clip. Zodi can repair or replace your gas valves at no charge if the product is covered under warranty. If out of warranty Zodi will repair your gas valves for a flat rate plus shipping. Most cl;ogged gas valves are caused by using wet or dirty propane tanks.

Step 1 - If you do not hear or smell propane gas when your gas valve is connected to a propane tank and turned on you have a clogged valve or an empty propane tank.

Step 2 - Make sure propane tank is new and the top of the tank that connects to the gas valve is clean and free of dirt, dust, etc. If your gas valve still does not work with a new propane tank attached, you have a clogged valve. The dust and debris on top of your propane tanks is how most valves get clogged.

Step 3 - This can be fixed in the field with a set of pliers and a pin in 5-10 minutes or you can send it back to Zodi for service. Remove propane tank from gas valve before proceeding.

Step 4 - To remove gas valve on a red single or double burner shower (Not black Zip Showers or red X-40s) hold the product so you have clear access to the silver tube that is inside the bottom of the product that connects to the gas valve - this is called the air/ gas mixing tube and has air 4 holes in it near the base of the tube by the gas valve. With the pliers, rotate that silver tube counter-clockwise and the tube will slowly lift from the base plate. The gas valve is notched and locked in place to the bottom bracket and will not rotate so you must rotate the silver tube until it completely separates from the gas valve.

Step 5 - Once the silver air gas tube is completely separated from the gas valve, the gas valve will pull away from the base plate.

Step 6 - The gas valve has a small brass tip at the top. This tip is where the clog is. With your pliers gently un-thread this brass tip by twisting the tip counter-clockwise. Try not to touch the very top of the brass tip as that is where the tiny hole is for the gas.

Step 7 - Once the brass tip is removed use a needle or paper clip to remove the debris screen inside this tip. Also blow air into both ends of the brass tip to clear any debris

Step 8 - Reconnect the valve without the tip to the propane cylinder and when safely clear of any flame or ignition source turn on the gas valve, a good flow of propane gas should hiss as the propane exits the top of the valve, this step cleans the valve without the brass tip attached.

Step 9 - After cleaning the inside of the brass tip, reattach it to the propane valve and gently tighten. Turn gas valve on and feel for a small flow of gas at the top of the brass tip. The hiss sound and flow will be MUCH LESS then in step 8 without the tip attached, but you should be able to smell the gas, hear the gas and even feel a small for of gas at the gas valve tip.

Step 10 - Position gas valve back on the base plate so the notches line up and then thread and tighten the silver air gas tube onto the top of the gas valve using your pliers and turning clock-wise. Make sure this is tight. You are now ready to use your Shower.
